United States Representative for New York’s 14th Congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez, simply called AOC was arrested on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, during a protest after the streets were blocked to protest the high court’s June decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Today I was arrested while participating in a civil disobedience action with my fellow Members of Congress outside the Supreme Court. I will continue to do everything in my power to raise the alarm about the assault on our reproductive rights!” Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez shared on social media.

A critic who retorted that Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez had faked her arrest got an instant reply.
“No faking here. Putting your hands behind your back is a best practice while detained, handcuffed or not, to avoid escalating charges like resisting arrest,” she retorted.
17 lawmakers were part of the 35 people who were arrested by the Capitol police. Some of these people who were arrested include; New York’s Carolyn Maloney, Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar, Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, Missouri’s Cori Bush, Texas’ Veronica Escobar, California’s Barbara Lee and Ayanna Pressley, and Massachusetts’ Katherine Clark.
