She holds many records for her age group. She turned professional in October 2018 and soon thereafter signed an endorsement contract with shoe company New Balance. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and the current world and Olympics records holder with 51.41s and 51.46ss, respectively.

Sydney improved her 400-metre hurdles to 55.28 at the 2015 national trials; the time was age 15 world best and ranked second on the all-time world youth behind Leslie Maxie’s world youth best (and national high school record) of 55.20 set in 1984.
Sydney set many new records and the most notable was in 400m where completed in 50.36s which is a World Junior record.
