Wilson was born to his parents Olga and William Contreras, amongst his other siblings.
He began attending baseball academy at the age of 16.
At the beginning of his career, Wilson played the positions of catcher, first base, second base, third base, left field, and right field.

Wilson was a free agent when he signed with the Chicago Cubs in 2009. He turned pro while playing with the Dominican Summer League Cubs same year.
He had recorded 205 bats in 29 games.
Between 2011 and 2015 he played with the Boise Hawks, Kane County Cougars, the Daytona Cubs and the Tennessee Smokies.
Also in 2015, he won the Cubs Minor League Player of the Year after batting .333/.413/.478 with eight home runs.
