John Andrew Smoltz, an American former pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for 22 seasons between 1988 and 2009, has made the All-Star team eight times.

John equalled the most victories by an NL pitcher since 1972 (24-8 record) to win the National League (NL) Cy Young Award in 1996.
He became just the second pitcher in history (joining Dennis Eckersley) to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in 2002, setting a National League record with 55 saves.

John Smoltz was one of the cornerstones of the Braves franchise for two decades. The only pitcher in Major League history with 200 victories and 150 saves is this one.
He won the 1992 NL Championship Series Most Valuable Player award, and Andy Pettitte later surpassed him in career postseason victories.
When he retired, his 3,084 strikeouts ranked fifth in league history. Since 2016, he has offered colour commentary during the All-Star Game and World Series, two of baseball’s biggest events.
In 2015, the year he first became eligible, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
