MVP candidate Johnny Gaudreau is leaving the Calgary Flames as he has signed a seven-year, $68.25 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Calgary Flames reportedly offered Johnny Gaudreau an eight-year contract worth over $10 million annually. Following eight seasons and 602 games with the Calgary Flames, Johnny Gaudreau chose to become an unrestricted free agent.

However, Johnny Gaudreau’s seven-year deal with the Blue Jackets is worth $9.75 million per year. The Flames selected Johnny Gaudreau in the fourth round, 104th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was awarded the 2014 Hobey Baker Award as the best player in the NCAA.

Johnny Gaudreau was a Calder Memorial Trophy finalist for the NHL’s best rookie and had won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s most gentlemanly player for the 2016–17 season. Coming up, Johnny played in the 2006 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.

Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew even played together at Boston College during the 2013–14 season.
