The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a Cabinet-level executive branch department of the federal government tasked with providing life-long healthcare services to eligible military veterans at the country’s 170 VA medical centres and outpatient clinics.

These benefits are provided for Veterans through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).
In addition, the VA offers burial and memorial services to eligible veterans and family members at 135 national cemeteries.
When the President of the United States declares a major disaster or emergency, and the Secretary of Health and Human Services activates the National Disaster Medical System, the VA can provide medical services reimbursed by other federal agencies to the general public.
