Denis McDonough is an American politician who has served as the 11th Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Joe Biden since 2021.

McDonough was nominated by President Joe Biden to lead the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
On January 27, 2021, he testified before the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. During his confirmation hearing, McDonough stated, “As a former White House chief of staff, I bring a deep and extensive knowledge of government.
” I know how to untangle and solve large, complex problems, both across and within large organisations.

On February 8, the Senate confirmed McDonough as Secretary of Veterans Affairs by a vote of 87-7, with six senators absent.
He is the second non-veteran to hold the office. On February 9, Vice President Kamala Harris swore him in.
