Elite athlete Randy Johnson made the most of his height in both basketball and baseball.

He was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round of the 1982 draft, but he declined their offer in favor of a baseball/basketball scholarship at the University of Southern California.

But once Johnson focused entirely on baseball after his sophomore year, he was unquestionably headed for Cooperstown.

Johnson, a San Francisco area native, was selected by the Expos in the second round of the 1985 draft while a student at USC.

He was born on September 10th, 1963. Johnson became a professional this time.

Was Randy Johnson a Yankee?

Yes, Randy was a Yankee. In January 2005, the Diamondbacks traded Johnson to the New York Yankees in exchange for Javier Vázquez, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro, and cash.

On April 3, 2005, Johnson took the mound for the Yankees on Opening Day against the Boston Red Sox.
