Hudson River Boat Capsized: 2 Dead

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, two people were killed and several others were injured when a rented boat capsized in the Hudson River.

The two victims were not identified immediately but were described as a 50-year-old female and a 7-year-old male.

Around 2:46 p.m., the FDNY and the New York City Police Department responded to a call of people drowning. FDNY and NYPD personnel rescued two people from the water.

One person was airlifted to Roosevelt Hospital in critical condition, while another was airlifted to Lenox Hill Hospital in critical condition.

The captain of the boat is among those in critical condition, according to NYPD officials at a press conference on Tuesday. Eight other people were injured, according to Kavanagh.

A Coast Guard official told CBS New York that it was unclear what caused the boat to capsize, but that there was a small craft advisory in effect at the time of the incident, indicating that the waves were high.

NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and that it is unclear whether the boat was overloaded or what other factors may have contributed to the accident.
