Scialfa grew up on the Jersey Shore in Deal, New Jersey. She was Joseph Scialfa’s and Patricia (née Morris) Scialfa’s middle child.

Her father was a successful local businessman who began with a television store and later became a real estate developer.

Patti started college at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music’s jazz conservatory. She later transferred to New York University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music.

She told Lear’s Magazine in 1994 that she had little talent for anything other than music and that she went to college to further her ambitions as a performer while also satisfying parental expectations.

Scialfa has been married to Bruce Springsteen since 1991 and has been a member of the E Street Band since 1984.

As a member of the E Street Band, Scialfa was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
