Vernita Lee Cause Of Death: What Happened To Oprah Winfrey’s Mother?

Vernita Lee, Oprah Winfrey’s mother, died on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at her home in Milwaukee. She was 83 years old.

Oprah said on Instagram that her mother “lived a good life and is now at peace.” Her cause of death was not revealed.

Vernita Lee was born on May 2, 1935, in Mississippi, and later worked as a housekeeper. In 1954, Lee was an unmarried adolescent when she gave birth to Winfrey.

When Winfrey was six years old, the family relocated to Milwaukee. The future television mogul, now 64, was raised by her maternal grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee, and also lived in Nashville with her father, Vernon Winfrey.

She is survived by daughters Winfrey, 64, and Patricia Amanda Faye Lee. She was predeceased by son Jeffrey Lee, who died in 1989, and daughter Patricia Lee Lloyd, who died in 2003.

Lee is also survived by her grandchildren Alisha Hayes, Chrishaunda Lee Perez, Aquarius Lofton and Andre Brown, as well as her great-grandchildren Jaxon Praise Perez, Chai Theresa Perez, Donovan Hayes and Trinity Hayes.
