Zorzi died on May 15, 2015, at the age of 68, in a hospital in Magenta, Lombardy, following a long illness. His funeral was held on May 18 in his birthplace of Ziano. Andrea, his son, survived him.
Reno Zorz was involved in an indirect fatal accident during the 1977 South African Grand Prix after retiring his car due to a split fuel pipe that caused an engine fire.
While Zorzi extinguished the fire with his onboard extinguisher, two fire marshals ran across the track, and one of them, Frederick Jansen Van Vuuren, was hit and killed by Zorzi’s teammate Tom Pryce’s car.
