Boris Johnson’s tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom began on July 24, 2019, when he accepted Queen Elizabeth II’s invitation to form a new administration under her prerogative.

It came after Theresa May resigned as prime minister and Conservative Party leader following Parliament’s repeated rejection of her Brexit withdrawal agreement.
Johnson was declared leader on July 23, 2019, after the results of the leadership election were announced.
Following a record number of resignations from his government, he announced his resignation on July 7, 2022, remaining Prime Minister until the election of a new party leader.

From 2016 to 2018, he served as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and from 2008 to 2016, he was Mayor of London.
Johnson has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015, having previously served as the MP for Henley from 2001 to 2008.
