Ovechkin has been dubbed “Ovi” and “the Great Eight” and is widely regarded as one of the greatest goal scorers of all time, holding the record for the most power-play goals in NHL history.

Ovechkin began his professional career in 2001 with Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Superleague, where he spent four seasons before returning briefly during the 2012-13 NHL lockout.

Ovechkin, a highly touted prospect, was selected first overall by the Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

In his first season with the Capitals, Ovechkin led all rookies in points with 52 goals and 54 assists, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year and finishing third overall in league scoring.

He’s a 12-time All-Star, nine-time Maurice Richard Trophy winner, and three-time Hart Trophy winner, and he won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2017-18, the same year Washington won the Stanley Cup. For these reasons, Ovie is at the top of this list.
