The couple lost Julia, his eldest daughter, in a boating accident in the James River near Glen Allen, Virginia, in July 2022, at the age of 17.
After learning of his daughter’s death, Mark Budzinski left the Blue Jays in the third inning of the second game of a doubleheader against the Rays on Saturday, July 2 2022.
During the vigil held for Julia, her mother, Monica Budzinski, said, “It was a very happy, fun last day on Earth for her.” “She was happy, laughing, and having a good time, and that’s how I’ll remember her.”

Mark Budzinski, a Richmond University graduate, played four games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2003 before retiring in 2005.
He joined Cleveland’s big-league staff in 2017 after managing in the club’s minor league system. Budzinski was hired by Toronto in November 2018.
