A huge impetus for the Cowboys trading Cooper was Elliot’s deal. Some have wondered why Dallas has opted to keep the traditional running back in a more pass-oriented league. The reason is because Elliot, who signed a six-year, $90 million extension ahead of the 2019 season, would create more issues for the team if he were released than if the Cowboys kept him.
