Oscar Mauricio Mercado is a Colombian-American Major League Baseball outfielder for the Cleveland Guardians (MLB).

He previously played for the Cleveland Indians / Guardians in Major League Baseball. He was a member of Colombia’s national baseball team during the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Mercado was born in the Colombian city of Cartagena. Oscar Sr., his father, played soccer and worked as a general contractor.
When he was seven years old, his family immigrated to the United States on his father’s work visa and settled in Tampa, Florida.

Mercado attended Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida. He committed to play college baseball at Florida State University.
Mercado was chosen 58th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2013 MLB draught. He signed with the Cardinals, receiving a $1.5 million signing bonus.
However, he was acquired by Cleveland from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline in 2018.
