Cavendish was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours for “services to British Cycling.”

He also won the 2011 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, receiving nearly half of the votes cast out of ten nominees.

In 2013, he won seven Grand Tour stages, one in 2015, and four in 2016. This included a stage one victory on the 2016 Tour de France, which earned him his first Tour de France yellow jersey.
