Goffin’s major career breakthrough was in 2012 where he reached the quarterfinals of an ATP World Tour tournament for the first time at the 2012 Chennai Open. To achieve this, Goffin defeated top-50 countryman Xavier Malisse and Andreas Beck.

Goffin is currently the highest ranked Belgian male and the first to reach the ATP top 10. Goffin has won six ATP titles, and has reached nine other ATP finals, most notably at the 2017 ATP World Tour Finals.
