Ričardas Berankis was born on June 21, 1990, in Vilnius, Lithuania. His parents are Genadijus Berankis and Jelena Berankiene. His mother works in a post office, while his father is a taxi driver. He was raised alongside one sister, Lina Berankyte-Astrauskiene, who was also a tennis player.

Lina Berankytė-Astrauskienė is currently a coach and an International Tennis Federation Official. Ričardas Berankis resides in Bradenton, Florida, but makes occasional returns to his town of birth Vilnius, Lithuania.

Ričardas Berankis began playing tennis at the age of two when his six years older sister Lina took him to her tennis practices. He won his maiden ATP doubles title at the 2015 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships alongside his partner Teymuraz Gabashvili.

Ričardas Berankis is the first and only Lithuanian citizen to enter the ATP top 50 rankings, making him the highest-ranked Lithuanian tennis player of all time. He is a known member of the Lithuania Davis Cup team. He has reached two finals on the ATP World Tour, at the Los Angeles Open in 2012 and Kremlin Cup in 2017.
