Aaliyah Dana Haughton was an American singer, actress, dancer and model. She was born on January 16, 1979. If she was alive today, she would have been 43 years old.

She has been credited for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop, earning her nicknames the Princess of R&B and Queen of Urban Pop.

Aaliyah worked with record producers, Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million, which sold three million copies in the United States and more than eight million copies worldwide.

Aaliyah tragically died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001. The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, about 200 feet (60m) from the runway. Aaliyah and seven of the eight others on board were killed instantly. The other passenger, a security guard, died shortly afterwards and according to paramedics, spent the last moments worrying about Aaliyah’s condition.
