Norrie was born in 1995 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where his Glasgow-born father and Welsh mother (a keen distance runner) worked as microbiologists.
The family moved from South Africa to Auckland after a burglary incident in 1998, when he was just three, the next-door neighbors being held up at gunpoint

He represented New Zealand as a junior but moved to London at the age of 16, where is still listed as his residence, and now represents Great Britain.
On 18 October 2021, Norrie became the men’s British number one for the first time.
