She began playing tennis at the age of five. She is descended from a tennis family of Lebanese origin. Her mother, Lais Scaff Haddad, and grandmother, Arlette Scaff Haddad, were both accomplished tennis players in Brazil.
Haddad Maia reached the ITF junior rankings as high as No. 15. She won her first professional doubles title in Mogi das Cruzes in September 2010 at the age of 14 with Flávia Guimares Bueno, and her first professional singles win in Goiânia in 2011 at the age of 15.

Haddad Maia has two WTA Tour singles and four doubles titles, one WTA Challenger Tour singles and doubles title, and seventeen ITF Women’s Circuit singles and nine doubles titles.
On 20 June 2022, she reached a career-high in the WTA rankings in both singles and doubles, rising to No. 29 in singles and No. 26 in doubles.
