Nathan Raymond MacKinnon is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain of the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche (NHL). The Avalanche selected MacKinnon first overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

He is known as “Nate the Great” and is regarded as one of the NHL’s top offensive players. He is also a standout performer in the postseason.
On February 22, 2015, MacKinnon scored his first NHL hat trick in a 5–4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is the Avalanche’s youngest player to ever record a hat trick.

On July 8, 2016, MacKinnon re-signed with the Avalanche as a restricted free agent, agreeing to a seven-year, $44.1 million contract worth $6.3 million per season.
Later in the offseason, on October 13, 2016, MacKinnon was named the Avalanche’s alternate captain after finishing the tournament with four goals and five assists.
MacKinnon represented Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He was a member of the third line with Johnny Gaudreau and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
