James Rado, the award-winning co-creator of Hair, has died at the age of 90.

Rado died on June 21, 2022 at a hospital in Manhattan from cardiorespiratory arrest.
Rado helped organize the Open Theater from 1962 to 1963 and performed in a number of shows, including Hamlet (1964) on Broadway, and Viet Rock (1966) off Broadway.
Was James Rado married? Rado received the Barter Theater Award for best young actor in 1963, after which he married Stephanie Williams. Rado and Williams had one son.

Rado is famed for writing the book and music for Hair along with the late Gerome Ragni.
Rado and Ragni were nominated for the 1969 Tony Award for best musical, and they won for best musical at the 11th Annual Grammy Awards.
After the success of Hair, Rado and Ragni went their separate ways for a period of time in the early 1970s.
Rado’s career originally started as an actor, including the lead in the 1966 James Goldman play The Lion in Winter starring Rosemary Harris and Christopher Walken and in Mike Nichols’ production of The Knack.
