Throughout the band’s existence, Morrison struggled with alcoholism, which hampered his stage performances at times.

Jim Morrison died of a heart attack brought on by drugs on the morning of July 3, 1971. He was found dead in the bathtub of the apartment at approximately 6:00 a.m., by Pam Courson.

His last words were allegedly “Are you there, Pam? Pam, are you there?”

Pam’s account of the events altered multiple times, and her tale is untrustworthy due to her drug use and emotional state, thus no one knows for sure what happened.

Even though the Doors recorded two more albums after Morrison’s death, his loss had a significant impact on the band’s fortunes, and they disbanded two years later.

Jim Morrison was voted fifth among the “Best Lead Singers of All Time” in a Rolling Stone readers’ poll in 2011. Morrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
