Miami Boat Accident: 2 bodies recovered, 10 rescued

The US Coast Guard reported that two bodies were discovered and ten people were rescued after two boats crashed in Florida’s Biscayne Bay on Friday, June 17 night.

The Coast Guard Station Miami Beach employees and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew rescued ten persons and discovered two bodies from the water.

According to the statement, a witness to the crash called the Coast Guard at 10:30 p.m. Friday, reporting 12 persons in the water about one mile west of Key Biscayne.

According to City of Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Pete Sanchez, the crash happened near the Nixon Beach Sandbar.

The Coast Guard reported one survivor was badly injured and was transferred to Jackson Memorial Medical Center and the remaining survivors were taken to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital.

“On behalf of the Coast Guard and our partner organisations, we’d want to express our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones,” said Coast Guard Sector Miami search and rescue mission coordinator Lt. Cmdr. Benjamin Tuxhorn.

The accident is being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
