The president and first lady, Dr Jill Biden, were nearing the end of a bike ride at Rehoboth Beach, where the pair is celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.
The president was speeding approaching a curve when he braked to talk to a crowd wishing him “Happy Father’s Day” and tipped over. He was flanked by Secret Service officials.

Dr Jill Biden had already turned around and was unaware of her husband’s collapse. Biden’s surprise dismount occurred after he came to a halt and was unable to free his bike shoes from the pedal-toe cages.
When asked if he was okay, Biden replied, “I’m fine.” When asked what caused his fall, Biden replied his bike’s “toe cages” got trapped.
