Stephen Colbert is married to Evelyn McGee. They have been married since1993 and have three children together Madeleine, Paul, and John.

Stephen met Evelyn McGee during an opera afterparty, which he attended with his mother. They discovered they had grown up together after meeting for the first time.

Even though they grew up just a few blocks apart, they attended different schools, with Evelyn attending an all-girls school and Colbert attending what he describes as virtually an all-boys school.

Evelyn McGee grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, as the daughter of Joseph McGee, a renowned Charleston litigation attorney and politician.

Evelyn McGee-Colbert studied English and Drama at the University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s largest of the 10 colleges. Her diploma was issued in 1985.

Evelyn McGee Colbert is an independent film producer and Vice President of her husband’s production company, Spartina Productions.

She is also the current head of the Montclair Film Board of Trustees, which administers the annual Montclair Film Festival in her hometown of Montclair, New Jersey.
