How Did Mark Shields Die?

Mark Shields, a longtime PBS News commentator noted for his weekly political analysis, died on Saturday, June 18 morning at the age of 85.

According to NewsHour spokesman Nick Massella, Mark Shields died of kidney failure at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

“I am heartbroken to share this. The @NewsHour’s beloved long-time Friday night analyst Mark Shields, who for decades wowed us with his encyclopaedic knowledge of American politics, his sense of humour and mainly his big heart, has passed away at 85, with his wife Anne at his side,” Woodruff tweeted.

Mark Shields was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and attended the University of Notre Dame. Shield joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating from college.

After that, he worked on other municipal and presidential campaigns before joining PBS in 1988. Shields was also a columnist for CNN and ABC, among other news organisations.
