Several players quit or were suspended from the PGA Tour in early June 2022 to compete in the LIV Golf Invitational Series, which conducted its inaugural event one week before the US Open in England.

The USGA subsequently confirmed that those players would remain eligible to play in the U.S. Open

The 2022 U.S. Open field includes 13 players who participated in the LIV Golf Invitational: Richard Bland, Sergio Garcia, Talor Gooch, Branden Grace, Sam Horsfield, Dustin Johnson, Jinichiro Kozuma, Phil Mickelson, Jed Morgan, Kevin Na, Shaun Norris, Louis Oosthuizen and James Piot.

Five of those players Garcia, Grace, Johnson, Na and Oosthuizen have officially resigned their PGA Tour membership.

Former major champions Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed are also in the U.S. Open lineup, both of whom were also part of LIV. The only LIV players in this year’s competition who have won the US Open are DeChambeau (2020) and Dustin Johnson (2016).
