Marilyn Monroe’s renowned “Happy Birthday Mr President” dress has suffered from “permanent damage” after Kim Kardashian wore the fragile gown during the 2022 Met Gala, a collector has stated.

Scott Fortner, a collector who assists in authenticating and certifying memorabilia associated with the 1950s film legend, provided images in a blog post that claimed to show the stretched fabric and missing crystals on the back of the garment.
It comes after Kardashian wore the classic gown on the Met Gala red carpet in early May, before changing into a replica for the rest of the evening.

Fortner told the PA agency that the dress’s owner, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, was “irresponsible” in lending what has been deemed “the most famous dress in the world.”
The museum paid US$4.8 million (£3.8 million) for the iconic gown in 2016. According to Vogue, the gown is kept in a gloomy vault that is kept at the ideal 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 40-50 % humidity, and it has seldom been detached from its muslin-covered dress form, let alone worn by anybody other than Monroe.
