Heidi was born in Vienna, Austria, on February 13, 1941. Heidi Horten was the widow of entrepreneur Helmut Horten. Forbes projected her net worth to be $3 billion in May 2020.
Horten acquired her fortune after her husband, the founder of the German department store chain Horten AG, died.

Horten served on the board of the Helmut Horten Stiftung, a nonprofit foundation that supports various healthcare facilities, funds medical research, and provides assistance to those in need.
Horten amassed a 500-piece art collection that included works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Yves Klein.
