The cause of Hari Chand’s death is unknown. He died at age 69 in Hoshiarpur.

Hari Chand was an Indian long-distance runner. He is one of the few great distance runners that India has produced.

In the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, he came eighth in the 10,000 metres run with a time of 28:48.72, this, however, was a national record for an Indian athlete and was also beaten 32 years later by Surendra Singh.

Chand bagged two gold medals at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games. In Thailand, Chand was on the two-step podium in both 500mm and 10,000m events.
