Perry, a Republican, served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2007 to 2013, representing the 92nd district.

Perry faced no Republican primary opposition in 2020, and Pennsylvania auditor general Eugene DePasquale won a two-way Democratic primary. Perry was re-elected in the general election with 53% of the vote.

Perry was chosen head of the House Freedom Caucus, the most conservative group of U.S. House Republicans, in November 2021.
