Tiffany’s death was announced on June 8, 2022, barely two months after her hubby announced his retirement from rugby; Tom announced his retirement from rugby on 27 April 2022.

Tiffany was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma – a form of blood cancer – shortly after the birth of daughter Maisie in 2014, after developing a cough she couldn’t shift.

In 2017, Tiffany was told her illness would be terminal and despite being told she was in remission in 2018, she has tragically lost her fight with the disease.

After Tiffany was told in 2017 that her illness was ‘incurable’ and she could die within a month, Tom’s brother Ben Youngs pulled out of the British and Irish Lions’ tour of New Zealand.

In 2018, Tiffany went into remission, but the illness sadly returned and Tom went on indefinite leave from Tigers duties in October 2021 to care for her before retiring from the game.

Tom’s former club confirmed the sad news in a statement Wednesday, June 8, 2022, saying;

Leicester Tigers are deeply saddened by the news that Tiffany Youngs has passed away after her heroic battle with illness.

On behalf of everybody at the club, we send our condolences to the Youngs and Sands families.

The club will be providing no further details and asks that the Youngs and Sands families have their privacy respected at this time.
