Trudy Haynes, the first Black television reporter in Philadelphia when she was hired in 1965, passed away at the age of 95 on Tuesday, June 7 20222.

She “changed the face of the news industry” in the city, according to the station. During her career, Ms Haynes interviewed the Rev. Dr Martin Luther King Jr., President Lyndon B. Johnson, Bette Midler, Muhammad Ali, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Tupac Shakur, and was hailed as a diligent journalist with a sharp wit and kind demeanour.

In 1999, she was honoured in the Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. She also aired a celebrity gossip programme called “Trudy’s Grapevine.”
