Bruce Cassidy’s tenure with the Boston Bruins came to an end on Monday, June 5 after six seasons when he was relieved of his duties as head coach by the Bruins. He was relieved of his duties because the management of the team wanted a new voice to head the team.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney stated in a statement. “This was a difficult decision to make after 14 years of working with Bruce. I’d like to congratulate and recognise Bruce for all of his efforts and success with the Bruins organisation. His record as a head coach with the Bruins is excellent, and we appreciate Bruce both professionally and personally.

“After giving everything some thought, I decided that our team’s approach for this season and beyond would benefit from a new voice. I wish Bruce, Julie, Shannon, and Cole the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Cassidy led the Bruins to a 245-108-46 record and six playoff appearances in six seasons as head coach. Under Cassidy’s leadership, Boston finished 36-37 in the postseason and advanced to the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals, where they were defeated in seven games by the St. Louis Blues.
