After a transition phase this summer, Sandberg will be replaced by Javier Olivan, the company’s current chief growth officer. She will remain a member of the Board of Directors.
Sheryl Sandberg has been with the company since 2008 and is frequently credited with shepherding it from a dorm-room startup to a $100 billion publicly-traded company. She led the organisation through turbulence, including questions about the dissemination of misinformation.

Sandberg’s departure, according to Zuckerberg, marks the “end of an era.” Sandberg, according to Meta, was essential in developing benefits programmes for women, including paid leave, bereavement leave, support for employees who choose to delay having a family and paid leave for survivors of domestic violence.
Since Sandberg arrived in 2008, the company has expanded dramatically. It grew from 500 to roughly 80,000 staff and from 100 million to 3 billion monthly active users.
