Right before 5 p.m. on Monday, a 33-year-old mother and her two sons, ages 7 and 10, were all parasailing in the Florida Keys when a violent storm pushed them into the Old Seven-Mile Bridge near Marathon.

The wire anchoring the mother and her sons to a boat snapped as it hit the bridge, and the trio plummeted into the ocean. Capt. John Callion, who was sailing a fishing charter boat with two people onboard nearby, was one of the first on the scene.

‘At roughly 5.30 p.m., I witnessed a parasail boat paragliding into a storm,’ he said on Facebook, noting that the weather changed from flat to blowing 30 mph in a matter of seconds.

The woman and her children were taken aboard by Capt. John Callion and carried to Sunset Grill Marina, where they were handed to EMTs and then sent to Fisherman’s Hospital in Marathon.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. Authorities say one of the boys recovered consciousness and was sent to Miami Children’s Hospital for treatment. His current state is unknown. According to investigators, the other boy sustained minor injuries.
