Sarah Margaret Qualley was born on October 23, 1994, in Kalispell, Montana, United States. Her parents are Andie MacDowell and Paul Qualley. She grew up with an older brother, Justin Qualley, and an older sister, Rainey Qualley.

Margaret Qualley’s mother Andie MacDowell is an actress and model while her father is a former model. She trained as a ballerina in her youth and Qualley made her debut at the Bal des débutantes in Paris.
