Rafael Nadal is often considered the French Open’s king. No other player has won more Grand Slams on the clay surface at Roland-Garros than the 35-year-old, whose 21 majors throughout the four Slams are a current record in the sport’s history.

Rafael Nadal has won the French Open men’s singles trophy, La Coupe des Mousquetaires, an unprecedented 13 times, and has competed in the main event at Roland-Garros 17 times.
On his 19th birthday in 2005, Nadal became the second player, following Mats Wilander in 1982, to win the French Open on his first attempt.

Following his initial triumph, Nadal went on to win the next three French Opens between 2006 and 2008, beginning his reign of domination, defeating Roger Federer in all three finals, the 2006 edition being the Swiss maestro’s first loss in a major final.
Nadal has only ever lost three matches in Roland-Garros in his career, having won the men’s singles title on 13 of 17 attempts. His exit in 2016 was not regarded as an official loss because he withdrew before the third round due to injury.
