Mark Christopher Stegall has been arrested in connection with a Memorial Day weekend watercraft tragedy on Georgia’s Wilmington River that killed five persons.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, 45-year-old Mark Christopher Stegall of Savannah was arrested and charged with boating under the influence.
The call came in at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28 to respond to a collision between two boats moving in opposing directions on the Wilmington River when they crashed. One of the boats involved went down.

The bodies of three men who had gone missing following the crash were discovered on Sunday, May 29 morning. They were discovered by wildlife wardens in 14-foot deep water, next to each other.
Christopher David Leffler, 51, Lori Lynn Leffler, 50, Zachary James Leffler, 23, Nathan Leffler, 17, and Robert Steven Chauncey, 37, have been confirmed as the victims.
According to investigators, crash reconstruction specialists will be combing through evidence to hopefully uncover answers as to how this crash occurred. They estimate that the process will take six to eight weeks.
