What Character Did Richard Gilliland Play On The Waltons?

Richard Gilliland was known as Jonesy on The Waltons.

The Waltons follows the story of a family in rural Virginia at the time of the Great Depression and World War II.

It movie was an adaptation of the book ‘Spencer’s Mountain’.

In 2021, the remake of episode, The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, titled “The Waltons: Homecoming”, was announced, featuring the same Walton family.

Richard Gilliland had also starred in Thirtysomething, Party of Five, and Little Women.

He was best known for playing the role of JD Shackleford in the CBS sitcom, Designing Women, between 1986 and 1992.

Gilliland was married to actress Jean Smart, who co-starred with him on Designing Women.

The couple later tied the knots in 1987, and their union was blessed with a son and a daughter.

Smart has also appeared in several movies such as The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Garden State (2004), I Heart Huckabees (2004), Youth in Revolt (2009), The Accountant (2016), and A Simple Favor (2018).

Gilliland later died in March 2021.
