Veteran American actress, Jean Smart, was married to actor Richard Gilliland, in 1987 and they had two children – a biological son and an adopted daughter.

The couple met on set of the movie ‘Designing Women’.
Gilliland later died after falling ill briefly in March 2021.
Connor Douglas Gilliland
Connor Douglas is the first and only biological son of the couple. He was born in 1989.
Connor has refused to have a social media presence and lives his life away from media glare.
Forrest Gilliland
Forrest is the adopted daughter of Smart and Gilliland. She was adopted from China in May 2009, when she was just a year old.

Forrest was originally called Bonnie Kathleen Gilliland before her name was changed.
Her mum, Jean Smart, has appeared in several movies such as The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Garden State (2004), I Heart Huckabees (2004), Youth in Revolt (2009), The Accountant (2016), and A Simple Favor (2018).
In 2021, Smart starred in the HBO Max dark comedy series Hacks (2021).
The movie which she played at age 69, garnered a number of positive reviews and made her earn the title, “The Queen of HBO”.
