Officials say two individuals were killed and three others were missing when two boats collided on a river in Georgia over Memorial Day weekend.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28 at a fork in the Wilmington River in Chatham County, roughly seven miles east of downtown Savannah.
According to officials, nine persons were aboard two boats, six in one and three in the other. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the boats were headed in opposing directions when they collided.

Three males remained missing in the aftermath of the incident: a 37-year-old man and two men in their early twenties who were last seen wearing board shorts.
First responders, including game wardens from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Chatham County Marine Patrol, Savannah Fire, and Chatham Emergency Services, were searching for the missing boaters with sonar.
The search has also included the use of two US Coast Guard helicopters. The cause of the crash is being investigated, according to officials.
