King Felipe VI of Spain is a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Like the Queen, Felipe is a descendant of Queen Victoria, as his father King Juan Carlos is the son of Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona who was the son f Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg.

Felipe VI ascended the throne on June 19, 2014, upon the abdication of his father, Juan Carlos I.
His reign has been marked by his dissolution of the Spanish Parliament in 2016, string condemnation of the Catalonian independence referendum, the COVID-19 pandemic and moves towards greater transparency in royal affairs.
