“One deputy sheriff’s daughter was killed in that school,” Abbott told reporters. On Tuesday, Alexandria “Lexi” Rubio, the 10-year-old daughter of Felix Rubio, a Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office official who reacted to the shooting, died.

Felix and his wife, Kimberly, told CNN on Wednesday that they were proud of their daughter, who enjoyed basketball and softball and aspired to be a lawyer like her mother.
In addition to the 21 people who died on Tuesday, 17 others were injured.
The shooting is the second deadliest at a school since the Sandy Hook Elementary School incident in 2012.
“The entire community is in complete shock,” Abbott continued. “Some of the officers’ bodily injuries are expected to recover in the following days. Mental and emotional traumas are significantly more difficult to detect and endure far longer.”
