Dame Deborah Anne James DBE was born on October 1, 1981, in London, United Kingdom. His parents are Heather James and Alistair James. Deborah was schooled at Salesian School, Chertsey.

Deborah James proceeded to study economics at the University of Exeter. She has served as a deputy headteacher at Salesian School, Chertsey, and has also worked at the Matthew Arnold School in Staines-upon-Thames.

Deborah James now works as a journalist and columnist for The Sun. She is the presenter of the You, Me and the Big C podcast for BBC Radio 5. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2022. She released her book F*** You Cancer: How to Face the Big C, Live Your Life and Still Be Yourself in October 2018.

Deborah James was diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016. She is currently married to Sebastian Bowen with whom she has two children.

Deborah James will be appearing on Embarrassing Bodies in her final TV appearance and wants the episode aired after she has died.

Deborah James was earlier diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in December 2016, when she was 35 years old. She stated that her symptoms are weight loss, passing blood, going to the toilet more regularly than normal, and feeling tired.
