Cher First Husband: Who Was Sonny Bono?

Sonny Bono and musical artist Cher tied the knots in 1964 but their marry didn’t last as they divorced in 1975.

Bono was an American singer, and actor turned politician. He had done a number of collaborations with Cher at the time.

Bono started writing songs at Specialty Records, and came up with hit songs “Things You Do to Me”, and “Needles and Pins”

Together with Cher, he made singles “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On”, “Bang Bang” and “You Better Sit Down Kids”.

Bono also served as a mentor in a way to Cher, assisting her in writing and producing singles.

Bono made guest performances several TV series such as Fantasy Island, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, The Six Million Dollar Man and CHiPs.

Bono made appearances in the 1980 miniseries Top of the Hill.

He went ahead to starr in Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), Troll (1986), and Hairspray (1988).

Sonny Bono As A Politician

Bono ventured into politics and became the new mayor of Palm Springs, serving between 1988 to 1992.

He was a strong force behind the creation of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which is held annually in Bono’s memory.
